Database and Semantic Technology Gurus Converge at LinkedData Planet Conference

Web inventor Sir Tim Berners-Lee, a distinguished speaker lineup, and thought leaders gathered in New York City in mid-June 2008 for the LinkedData Planet conference

A content-rich program presented by a distinguished faculty was the highlight of LinkedData Planet, a production of Jupitermedia Corporation (Nasdaq: JUPM). The conference ran June 17-18, 2008 at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City.

The conference theme, the confluence of enterprise and Internet computing, focused on exploiting databases as we progress from a web of linked documents to a web of linked data. The conference program included panels, keynotes and presentations about information sharing, publishing SQL data, and applying semantic technologies for enterprise applications, mashups, social networks and service-oriented architecture (SOA).

The keynotes on June 17-18 were presented by executives who are thought leaders in the software industry, with expertise in information management, semantic technology and databases. They included OpenLink founder Kingsley Idehen, IBM Vice President Dr. Anant Jhingran, Talis CTO Ian Davis and OntoText founder Atanas Kiryakov. W3C Director Sir Tim Berners-Lee will deliver a June 17 keynote about the Web of Data.

Panels and Workshop

The Linked Data Planet program included a workshop, moderated by Conference Co-chair Bob DuCharme, that featured a lineup of expert instructors. On June 17, the New York Semantic Web Meetup group organized a panel discussion titled "The Semantic Web is Open for Business". On June 18, Conference Co-chair Ken North moderated a panel discussion about "Semantic Technology in the Real World: Challenges and Opportunities". Panel members included:
